Joseph's Story

Joseph L. Connell, of the Town of Wheatfield, passed away suddenly on Monday, October 23, 2017. He was 65. He was born in Kittanning, Pennsylvania on July 21, 1952, a son of the late John A. and Annabelle (Wyant) Connell.
Joseph attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School on Pine Avenue. He served in the United States Air Force and then worked at Hooker Chemical (Oxychem), Olin and Covanta, retiring in 2013.
He was a member of the American Legion LaSalle Post 1142 (where he was a Chaplain and Past Commander), the Legion Riders, St. Johnsburg Fire Hall, The Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Wheatfield Seniors and he attended the Ransomville Baptist Church.
Joseph loved to travel, was a Yankees and Bills fan, a bingo caller for years and he enjoyed bowling, playing softball and riding his Harley. He also volunteered at Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital and played Santa for many year,s but his greatest joy was his time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Love) Connell; two sons, Joseph (Chasee) Connell of Washington and James Connell of Niagara Falls; two step-children, Jennifer (Tracey) Thousand of Oregon and Jeffrey (Lori) Thousand of Niagara Falls. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Christopher, Cameron, Brandon, Jasmine, Joey, Alex, Liz and Jay; his sister, Connie (late John) Mack of Wilmington, Delaware; two brothers, Dennis Connell of Virginia and Paul (Denise) Connell of Pennsylvania; and sister-in-law, Rebecca (late John 'Jack') Connell of Grand Island; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, John 'Jack' and David Connell; and his sister, Denise Connell.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls on Thursday from12 noon until 4 PM with services being held at 4 PM. Burial will be private in North Ridge Cemetery in Cambria.
