John W. 'Jack' Stewart, 84, longtime resident of Niagara Falls, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 7, 2017. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland on March 28, 1933, a son of the late John W. and Robina 'Ruby' (Kerr) Stewart.
He attended schools in Scotland, then served in the British Royal Air Force. He married Norah B. McDonnell in 1951, they moved to the United States in 1954 and they remained happily married for 59 years until Norah's passing in 2010.
Mr. Stewart worked as a pipefitter at Harrison Radiator where he also taught Ergonomics classes, retiring in 2008. After his retirement he worked at the Hyde Park Golf Course and the Niagara Falls city parking lot. He and his wife enjoyed travelling to Scotland and across the United States, especially Las Vegas. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling and going to the casino.
Mr. Stewart is survived by his son, John W. Stewart of Niagara Falls; grandchildren, Frank D. Stewart, Shannon Stewart, Amanda Stewart and Heather Knott; great-grandchildren, Lourdes and Gianni and his sister Hannah 'Ann' (late Ed) Veihdeffer. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Ellen (late Joseph) Monaghan of Glasgow, Scotland, Judy (late Frank) Stewart of Niagara Falls, Mary (Eugene) Maxwell of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Linda (late Christopher) McDonnell of Niagara Falls, Margaret (late John) McDonnell of Cardiff, Wales and many nieces and nephews on both sides of the Atlantic.
In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by his son, Frank (late Eileen) Stewart; his daughter, Laurie Stewart-Trane and siblings, Frank (Judy) Stewart, Robert Stewart and Patricia Stewart and brother-in-law, Ed (Hannah 'Ann') Veihdeffer.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue on Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM, where funeral services will be held at 8 PM immediately following the visitation. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. If desired, donations may be made in Mr. Stewart's name to the Alzheimer's Association of WNY, 2805 Wehrle Drive, Buffalo, NY 14221.
