John D. Richardson was the son of the late Chester N. and Pearl (Darcy) Richardson. He grew up in Youngstown, attending the Red Brick School, and was confirmed at St. John's Church. He was a paratrooper with the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne during the Korean conflict.
John worked with the survey crews on construction of the Niagara Hydro Power Project and the portion of the I-190 that crosses Grand Island. In the early 1960's he moved to California, where he met the love of his life, Joan Faulkner, at the San Francisco Tip Toppers Tall Club, and they were married in August, 1964. Joan predeceased him 16 years ago. As a Project Survey Engineer, his signature is on much of todays San Francisco skyline.
He was a devoted husband and father and, with his wife, raised 14 foster children. Between these 14 plus the children of his wife's four sisters, and all the grandchildren, he accumulated a large extended family. He was a very generous and giving person and will be sorely missed by many. In addition to his extended family he is survived by two sisters, Ruth Richardson of Santa Rosa, CA and Jane Richardson of Youngstown.
A memorial service celebrating the life of John D. Richardson will be held on Saturday, November 11th at 10 AM in St. John's Episcopal Church, 117 Main St., Youngstown NY. Immediately following the church service there will be a reception and luncheon in the parish hall next to the church.
