John F. DeMunda, 96, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 18, 2018 in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on August 8, 1921 to the late Grace (DeSantis) and Joseph DeMunda.
A Niagara Falls native, he was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School. During WWII John served in the US Army European Theater in the 352nd Searchlight Battalion. After returning from the Army he married the former Anna Mary Gambino at St. Joseph Church, she passed away May 1, 1990. John worked in maintenance for the City of Niagara Falls at City Hall and was the supervisor of maintenance at the Public Safety Building and retiring from the Parks Department in 1984. Mr. DeMunda was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, member of the Volare' Lodge ISDA, former member of the Holy Name Society of St. Joseph Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by three loving daughters, Grace Magaddino, Mary Beth DeMunda and Theresa (Grant) Hone; four grandchildren, Gina (Charles) Lostracco, John (Wendy), Antonio (Tessa) and Thomas (Kori) Magaddino; nine great-grandchildren, Kara (Jason) Laetsch, Annamaria Lostracco, Carlo, Gabriella, Alainna Magaddino, Tatum Ginther, Giuliana, Francesca, Alexis Magaddino; three great-great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Preston, Landon Laetsch; two brothers, Anthony (late Nina), Joseph (Barbara) DeMunda; sisters-in-law, Frances DeMunda and Yolanda Gambino. He was predeceased by his wife, his parents, siblings; the late Mary (Dominic) Totaro, Rose (Charles) Buscemi, Frank (Evelyn) DeMunda, Thomas DeMunda and his great-granddaughter, Mia Magaddino.
The family will be present to receive friends Sunday and Monday from 4-8 PM at the SPALLINO-AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, 1300 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, where prayers will be said on Tuesday at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated from Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Ave. at 10 AM. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. Family and friends invited. Flowers gratefully declined. If desired, memorials may be made in John's memory to St. Joseph Outreach or the Boys and Girls Club of Niagara Falls.
