The family of John L. Ball announce his peaceful passing, at age 80 after a 21 year battle with cancer. A native of Niagara Falls, NY, John called Wilmington, NC his home for 24 years. He served in the Navy and Army Reserve for a combined 31 years and earned retirement from the city of Niagara Falls for service as a police officer and fire fighter. In addition, he dedicated 20 years of service as a Registered Nurse at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and New Hanover Medical Ctr. He also served as a youth football coach, Master of Masonic Lodge, Emmaus & Chrysalis Communities and Sunday School teacher. He was an avid golfer and talented artist and carver.
John will be greatly missed by his wife of 36 years, Peggy; his daughters Terri (Michael) Odom, Stacey (Brian Maouad), Janet (Michael) Milleville and step-children Annette (Chris) Gadlage, Scott (Stephanie) Mosher, and 15 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by parents; LW (Bill) and Margaret Ball, his brothers William, James Ball and brother-in-law Harry Hanna.
