Joan D. (Tompkins) Morgan

April 06, 1932 - October 07, 2018

Joan D. (Tompkins) Morgan, lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 7, 2018. She was 86. She was born on April 6, 1932, a daughter of the late William and Anna (Murphy) Tompkins.
She graduated from Niagara Falls High School and then graduated in the first nursing school class of Mt. St. Mary's Hospital where she earned an award for "achievement and sincere devotion to the school of nursing."
Joan married John Morgan in 1966 and they remained happily married for 27 years until his passing in 1993.
She held many positions during her long career at the hospital and retired in the position of cardiac teacher. Joan was greatly influenced in life by her mother, Anna. Family tradition was very important to her as she always loved decorating the Tompkins' Christmas tree and coordinating the family gatherings. She was known to frequently drop "little pearls of wisdom" to family members and friends, to remind them of Grandma's wisdom.
Joan was a devoted Christian and lived her faith values to the fullest, being the consummate nurse and caregiver to all family members, and reaching beyond to friends of family and neighbors. She touched many people with her quiet, caring ways and her gentle smile. Her life was serving God by doing for others. Joan's service to others was her crowning jewel.
She is survived by three siblings, Patricia (Frank) Phillips, Kenneth (Charlotte) Tompkins and Robert (Sharon) Tompkins; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by seven siblings, Melvin Tompkins, Karolyn Tompkins, Grace Thompson, Reva Waddell, Doris Berthot, Ann Wood and Arlene Smiedala; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue on Wednesday from 4-8 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 10 AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th and Independence. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT THE CHURCH. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lewiston.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, donations may be made in her memory to a charity of one's choice.

I did yard work for Joan for years. She and Arlene , were like aunts to me and were very special people(Angels). They ,always, made sure that I had plenty to drink and sent me home with a care package of snacks and food.I will miss them, very much.

I will miss Aunt Joan’s thoughtful observations at family get togethers, and her great laugh! I’m sorry I won’t be able to attend the services, but she will be in my prayers.
