Jane's Story

Jane (Bauer) Rideout, formerly of Niagara Falls and a longtime resident of the Town of Wheatfield, passed away Friday, March 31, 2017 in DeGraff Memorial Hospital. She was 89. She was born in Blasdell, New York on January 4, 1928, the daughter of the late George and Viola (Schrader) Bauer.
She was a graduate of Hamburg High School, graduated from the University of Buffalo with a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry and later a Master's Degree in Education from Buffalo State College.
Mrs. Rideout began her employment with the E.I. DuPont Company, working for several years. She followed her heart with her love for education, especially science and began her teaching career in Niagara Falls with the former Prince of Peace School. She made education fun for her students. Many will remember her yearly chick raising project, bringing much joy to her classroom children. She also taught in North Tonawanda parochial schools.
An avid conservationist and her love for ecology, she loved bird watching, gardening and her classroom projects. For many years, she was a Girl Scout Leader in Niagara County running many of their paper drives.
After her retirement, she home tutored many children adding a twist of fun, encouragement and support.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Kenneth Rideout; their children, George (Carol) Rideout; Lori (David) Fox; Eleanor (Kathy Allen) Rideout; Rita (John); daughter in law, Lynn Rideout; grandchildren, Christa (Norman) Marshall; Anthony Rideout; Caitlyn and Jessica Fox; Peter and Melissa Rideout; Daniel and Joseph; a great grandson George Marshall; brother in law, Elmer (Teresa) Rideout II and Eleanor Melville. She was predeceased by her son, Paul, brothers, Eugene and Leroy Bauer.
There will be no prior visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday 11 AM in St. Jude the Apostle Church, 800 Niagara Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda, NY 14120. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jane's name may be made to the church. The interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
