Dr. James A. Brittain (DPM), passed away at his home in Oshawa on Friday, June 9, 2017 in his 96th year. Loving husband of Lily (deceased), Jim was born in Niagara-on-the-Lake on December 31, 1921.
Jim served from 1939 to 1945 in WWII with the Lincoln and Welland regiment. He was part of the Normandy invasion and was wounded on March 10, 1945. Jim and Lily married in 1947. Jim became a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine and in 1951 he started his practice in Oshawa, Ontario. He retired in 1997.
Loving father of Ron (Marie), Dan (Mary), Cathy Muir (Brian), and Brian (Karen). Jim is survived by his brother, Lloyd (Lois), Fred (Bev) Smythe; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Smythe. He was predeceased by brothers, Gord (Mary), Orville Smythe; and sister, Gladys (George) Coote. He will be greatly missed by his 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Veterans Affairs and the doctors, nurses and PSWs who supported Jim.
