Henry Cox Sr., 77, of Niagara Falls, NY, made his peaceful transition to heaven on Monday, April 18, 2016 following a lengthy illness.
Henry was born April 7, 1939 in Montgomery, Al to the late Alma Watkins and Lamar Hart. He was raised by his late maternal grandmother, Gussie Cox.
Henry attended local schools. He was gainfully employed at the Niagara Power Authority, and successfully retired from Delphi Automotive Systems (formerly Harrison Radiator Corporation), after 30 years of service. Additionally, Henry was one of the first black men in Niagara Falls to purchase, own and operate his own cab dispatching service by way of LaSalle Taxi, which he drove for 49 years.
Henry was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Revival Temple, where he at one point, drove the church bus.
Henry enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and spending quality time with his family. He will be especially remembered for: his superb work ethic and strong business sense; his welcoming and widespread smile; his unique tone and diction; his hearty laugh and quick witted sense of humor; and for his generous heart.
Henry leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Irene; together, their three children, Anna Marie (Tommie) McCaster Sr., Marilynn (Jimmy) Smith Jr., and Henry (Tonia) Cox Jr.; daughter, Darlene (Timothy) Moss; three godchildren, Shelaine Richmond, Nelson “Mann” Thomas Jr., and Janelle Barnes; eleven grandchildren, Thomas McCaster Jr., Thomas McCaster III., Steffany Smith, Jerome McCaster, James(Ashley) Smith III, Joel (Latasha)Smith, Jerald (Yasmeen)Smith, Shauna Smith, Chandra Cox, Henry Cox III, Joshua(Ashanti) Smith and Mya Myles; 16 great- grandchildren; one brother, Samuel (Precious) Cox; one sister, Sharon Hart; one aunt, Gussie Mae James; two uncles, Emmit and Terry Cox; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including special friends, Jim and Mae Garner.
Henry was predeceased by several family members.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 25th from 9-11 A.M. at the Bethlehem Revival Temple, 2010 Virginia Ave., Niagara Falls, NY 14305, where funeral services will follow at 11 A.M. Interment at Acacia Park Cemetery, North Tonawanda, NY.
