Helen's Story

Helen Anne (Eckenrode) Donoughe, longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 under the care of Hospice at Northgate Manor. She was 94. She was born in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania on August 21, 1922, a daughter of the late Walter and Mildred (Bradley) Eckenrode.
She moved to Niagara Falls in the early 1940's, married Anthony P. Donoughe and together they raised their family. They remained happily married until his passing in 1993.
Mrs. Donoughe enjoyed bingo, reading and needlepoint but her greatest joy was her time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She is survived by six children, Donald (Judy) Donoughe, Harold (Janet) Donoughe, Robert (Mary) Donoughe, Rose Reece, Mary Ellen (Terry) Jackson and Joanie (Bob) Ferlito-Dell. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by six children, Anthony P. Donoughe, Jr., Mark Donoughe, Anna Costanza, Marilyn Hall, Elliott Donoughe and Kathleen Gemmati; and six siblings, Elmer, Pete, Joseph and Eugene Eckenrode, Dorothy Sheehan and Audrey Eckenrode.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue today from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM where prayers will be recited on Saturday at 10:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Leo's Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, N.Y. 14304. Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lewiston.
