George T. 'Pep''s Story
George T. 'Pep' Haeberle, age 88, passed away on March 2, 2017 in Port Charlotte, FL. He was born on May 4, l928 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late George, Jr. and Gertrude (Tuttle) Haeberle.
George was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School and attended Syracuse University where he studied Lumber/Millwork Marketing and Technology. He worked his entire career in the family business, first at Haeberle Lumber Company and then as owner of Haeberle Paint and Building Supply Company. George also served as President and CEO of Haeberle Plaza from 1967-1980 before retiring to Venice, FL.
George was a gifted craftsman and spent many hours woodworking. He was proud of the cottage that he built on Go Home Lake in Northern Ontario, Canada, and also the cabin he renovated in the Adirondack region of New York State. George was a private airplane pilot and enjoyed working on and flying his beloved 'Sea Bee,' an amphibious airplane. Other pastimes that he enjoyed were golf, tennis, bowling, fishing, and boating.
George was predeceased by his wives, Janet Moore Haeberle (1990) and Concetta N. Haeberle (2016); and one brother, Peter R. Haeberle. He is survived by daughters, Elizabeth H. (Dan) McSpadden and Nan L. (Allan) Hazelton; his five grandchildren, Amanda (Matt) Aylett, David (Ginnie) McSpadden, Eric (Robyn) Hazelton, John (Amber) McSpadden, Bryan (Denise) Hazelton and three great-grandchildren. George also is survived by his stepchildren, Fred Liebel, Michelle (Mike) Bissonette, GiGi (Mike) Shaughnessy and their children and grandchildren.
A private family memorial is planned at a future date and burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
