Frank Anthony Supkowski, longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 27, 2017. He was 89. He was born September 1, 1927 in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania to Anthony F. and Veronica Rose Supkowski.
Frank attended Pennsylvania schools and graduated from Nanticoke High School and then volunteered for the Civil Air Patrol in 1944 when he was 17. He was drafted into the Army in 1945 , served in Peiping, China and was honorably discharged in 1947. After his military service, Mr. Supkowski moved to Niagara Falls and began his career at DuPont as a laborer in 1948, and retired as a 1st line supervisor in 1985.
He was an avid fisherman, proficient bowler for 50 years, and a longtime member of St. John de LaSalle Parish. On January 23, 2016 he was awarded a Congressional Gold Medal for his service in the CAP.
He is survived by his niece, Darya Vaillancourt, and her husband Allen; in-laws, Darl McCoy, and his wife, Charon; Janet Bianca; and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Audrey (McCoy) Supkowski; three brothers, Anthony, Joseph, and Casimer; and his sister, Marion Sincavage.
Prayers will be said today (Wednesday) at 9:30 AM at LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. John de LaSalle Church, 8477 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls. Entombment, with Military Honors, will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lewiston.
