Francis Ray's Story
Francis Ray Collins, 88, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in Clearfield, PA, he was the son of the late Patrick D. and Beula (Beauseigner) Collins.
Ray was a graduate of St. Francis High School in Clearfield, PA and during the Korean War served as a corporal in the U.S. Army, stationed in Alaska. In the early 1950's he came to Niagara Falls and on November 14, 1953, he married Sheila (Murphy) Collins at St. Mary of the Cataract Church. Ray along with his son, Dennis, owned Ray's Auto Electric in the Town of Niagara which he operated for fifty-eight years and received recognition from the Town of Niagara for his longevity as a business owner. Ray truly enjoyed his trip to Ireland and vacationing in Florida with his beloved wife Sheila. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing and working around the yard, especially in his garden. He was also an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills.
Mr. Collins was a devoted catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Peter's Church. He will be remembered as a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who centered his life around his family.
In addition to his wife of sixty-two years, Ray is survived by two children, Debra (late Allan) Hastee and Dennis R. Collins; two grandchildren, Sean (Shusila) Singh and Kelly (Anthony) Pallaci; three great-grandchildren, Lilyana, Anthony and Nicholas Pallaci; one sister, Margaret (James) Calvanesa; one brother, Terrance Collins. Ray was the brother-in-law of Patrick (Kathleen) Murphy and Mary (Donald) Steele; and also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by five brothers, Joseph, Donald, Gerald, Jack and Patrick Collins; and three sisters, Gretchen Owens, Barbara Stephens and Dolores Uncles.
Mr. Collins' family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude for the special care given to him by Dr. Robert Bull, Dr. Benjamn Rueda, Dr. Alfred Fast, Dr. Christopher Jhirmack, Msgr. David LiPuma as well as the nurses and staff at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4-6 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 29th at 9 AM at St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Flowers are graciously declined. Donations may be made to the Campaign for St. Peter's Church or for Mass Intentions to St. Peter's Church in memory of Mr. Collins.
