Frances (Mansu) Trunzo, 88, of Wheatfield, NY, passed away on March 3, 2018, at her residence while under the care of family and Niagara Hospice. Born in North Collins, NY, she was the daughter of the late Elia "Leo" and Petrina "Josephine" (Catalano) Mansu.
Frances moved to the Niagara Falls area with her family. She married the love of her life, Michael Trunzo on April 29, 1950, at St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls. Mr. Trunzo predeceased her on September 24, 2017.
Frances worked for several years as a cook at the Knights of Columbus in Lockport, NY and as a cook for Head Start in North Tonawanda. Frances had a special affection for children. She always made time to babysit any family members, and in her younger years volunteered her time at the church and schools of St. John's Lutheran in Wheatfield and St. Joseph's RC School in North Tonawanda.
Frances was an outstanding cook and baker. She was especially known for her famous homemade bread and loved to share her skills and recipes. Frances baked a countless assortment of Christmas cookies every year, as well as cookies for family weddings and character cakes for family birthdays. She loved to sing to her children and grandchildren and loved playing cards with her family. Above all, Frances cherished Sunday family dinners and will be remembered for her kind heart and great sense of humor.
Mrs. Trunzo is survived by her four children, Tom (Judy) Trunzo, Sr., Chris (Deborah) Trunzo, Michael "Mick" (Bonnie) Trunzo, Bobbie Ann (Richard) Meredith, and was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Lou Trunzo. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Tom (Jennifer "Bubba") Trunzo, Jr., Samuel (Jennifer) Trunzo, Anthony (Krysta) Trunzo, Stephanie (Brian) Hash, Michelle (Steve) Hilbrecht, Zachary Trunzo, Jessica Trunzo, Raymond Meredith and Rachel Meredith; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, James (Mary Grace) Mansu; one sister, Ann Marie Keesee, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by six brothers, Joseph Mansu, Salvatore Mansu, Peter Mansu, Nunzio Mansu, Charles Mansu, Thomas Mansu, and three sisters, Nina Bainard, Florence Demasi and Dorothy Liermo.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 3-7 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY, where funeral services will follow at 7:00 PM, with Rev. Gary Szczepankiewicz officiating.
