Evelyn L. (Joy) Waggoner

Evelyn L. (Joy) Waggoner, 94, passed away peacefully at her home in North Tonawanda, NY, Sunday morning, September 24, 2017. She was born June 22, 1923 in Niagara Falls, the daughter of the late Victor C. And E. Helen (Wilcox) Joy.
As a young woman, she loved working at various gift shops in Niagara Falls. She ended her work career as a sales associate at her favorite job at Jenss Bros. in Pine Plaza. She also worked with her father at the Falls View Box Company in Niagara Falls.
Evelyn enjoyed collecting dolls, music, genealogy, reading, quilting, travel and spending time at her summer home in Onset, Mass. At the time of her death, she was working to create a book about growing up in Niagara Falls in the 1920's and 1930's.
She was a true artist when it came to creating handmade items. Her favorite was to create beautiful counted cross stitch pieces which she gave to family and friends, who will cherish them for generations to come.
Her family always came first and she taught her children by example. She was the most gentle, loving soul who always looked for and found the best in everyone and taught love and kindness without conditions. Her family is so grateful to have been part of this beautiful woman's life.
She was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ (formerly The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) which played a very large part in her life. She helped at church in any capacity needed from Sunday school teacher, to singing in the choir, to working at the church dinners. One of her favorite times had been when she was a member of the Sunday morning radio program choir 'The Old Old Path' on WHLD radio in the mid 1940's.
She was the wife of the late William 'Bill' Waggoner whom she married on his weekend leave from the Marines in June 1943. They were together 60 years before his death in 2003. Their son, William Bruce, pre-deceased them. She was also pre-deceased by grandsons, Jeffery Miller and Andrew Miller; and by her sister, Eleanor; and brother-in-law, Robert Manning.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Gary (Elayne) Waggoner of Beavercreek, Ohio, Nancy Miller of Onset, Mass., and John (Gretchen) Waggoner of Lewiston, NY; grandchildren, Timothy Miller, David Miller, Stephanie (Brent) Sainz, Jennifer St. Clair, and Jonathan (Kourtney) Waggoner; great-grandchildren, Hannah Miller, Jeffery Miller, Gage Miller, Makenzie Miller, Brendan Sainz, Nolan Sainz, Drew St. Clair and Kendall St. Clair. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Marguerite Waggoner; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Niagara Hospice for their care of our mother during her final illness; especially her aides, Christine, Katie, and Tawanna, and her nurse, Liz.
There will be no prior visitation. Burial will be at Riverdale Cemetery, 5605 Old Lewiston Road, Lewiston, NY at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 30, 2017.
