Eva's Story

Text size

Eva filled every room with positive energy and laughter. Those who knew her best will tell you about her generosity and passion for challenging the status quo. Never one to accept mediocrity, she instilled a drive in others and her children to live life big and out loud. This was best exemplified by the many epic travel adventures she planned for her friends and daughter Christine to far away places such as the Galapagos Islands, Egypt and India.
Her decision to pursue nursing at Niagara University was inspired by her loving mother Margaret Putnam Cushman. For the first 25 years of her professional life she served as a comfort to thousands of patients during the most vulnerable moments of their lives at Mt. St. Mary's emergency department. Her legacy and enthusiasm for medicine lives on in her son Joseph Zalocha, a critical care physician. This was a particular point of pride for her since she also wanted to be a doctor, but like most of her life she was ahead of her time.
Perhaps the most pivotal point in her life came when she took the leap of faith to try a new profession in her 40s as a single mother with two small children. Her amazing ability to connect with people helped her to become a top sales person for Carstens for the final 20 years of her career.
When she wasn't working the job she loved or dancing her heart out on a cruise ship, you could find her cursing out the Bills on a Sunday with her friends from the Polish Nook.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Blaise and William; and her beloved Aussie/Border Colliie, Sam.
Her children, Joe and Christine, would be grateful if you would share your favorite stories and photos with them here: christinerzalocha@gmail.com
