Emily's Story

Emily J. (Dworak) Sowa, passed away peacefully at OLP with her family by her side, Wednesday, February 7, 2018. Emily was born and spent her entire life in Niagara Falls, NY. She was the daughter of the late Thomas R. Dworak, Sr. and Antoinette I. (Depa) Dworak.
She attended Holy Trinity School where she was very proud of the fact, that because of her academics, she skipped two grades. Emily graduated from Niagara Falls High School and The Kelly Business Institute and was a long-standing parishioner of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church.
On May 8, 1948, Emily married the love of her life, Adolph Valentine Sowa, from Lackawanna, NY. Adolph predeceased Emily on August 9, 1975. During World War II, Emily worked for the Lake Ontario Ordinance Works in the Town of Porter, and also worked as a bookkeeper and sales clerk for her family's business, Niagara Fancy Bakery. Later she worked as a sales clerk for DiCamillo Bakery until her retirement.
Above all, Emily loved spending time with her children and grandchildren who all have so many fond memories of how she always made them laugh. Emily was an avid reader, and also enjoyed going to bingo and the casino.
Emily will be sadly missed by her daughters, Joanne (late Anthony) Fitch, Sherry (Dominic) Massaro; son, Gary T. (Cynthia) Sowa; grandchildren, Nicholas (Katie) Massaro, Dr. Allie (Schuyler) Massaro-Cadwalader, Dominic Massaro, Marlene (Michael) Deck, Jeffery Sowa, Shawn (Amy) Fitch, Ryan Fitch, Stacey Fitch and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Edwin L. 'Dutch' Dworak and Thomas R. (Charlene) Dworak, Jr.; and sister, Stephania D. (Walter) Gorzynski.
NO PRIOR VISITATION. A Memorial Mass will be held 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 17th at Holy Family of Jesus Mary & Joseph Parish (Mt. Carmel site), 2486 Independence Ave., Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Duane Klizek officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Burial in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY, will take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Alzheimer's Association of WNY, 2805 Wehrle Drive Suite 6, Williamsville, NY 14221-7380. Arrangements entrusted to ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME, INC.
