Elanda (Ventresca) Del Zoppo, 87, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away at her residence on January 10, 2018. Born in Introdacqua, Abruzzo, Italy, she was the loving daughter of the late Giovanni and Rosina (Centofanti) Ventresca.
Elanda immigrated to Niagara Falls at the age of two with her family. She attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1948. On June 17, 1950, she married her high school sweetheart, Rocco Del Zoppo, at St. Joseph's Church and spent 58 memorable years together until his passing on April 19, 2009.
Elanda began her career with the Niagara Falls Board of Education as a stenographer in the late 1940's, and later as a Home School Partner at LaSalle Senior High from 1983 until 1993. During that time, she was also employed as a waitress at the Como Restaurant for 32 years until retiring in 1992. Elanda always wanted to be a teacher. Even though she didn't have a degree, she impacted hundreds of students as a volunteer in her son, Gerry's classroom, where she was affectionately known as GRANDMA. Elanda, indeed became a tremendous, loving teacher and cherished every moment. In 2010, Elanda was awarded the Parent/Agency Support Recognition Award from the Niagara Falls Board of Education, and in 2015 the Community Service Award from the Niagara Falls Teachers in recognition of all her contributions.
Mrs. Del Zoppo was a longtime parishioner and choir member of Prince of Peace Church, as well as a dedicated member of her class of 1948 reunion committee. In her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and vacationing in Old Forge, NY with her family. Elanda always looked forward to countless family gatherings and celebrations, both in her home and elsewhere. She treasured her relationships with many cousins including the Zuccari, Perricelli and Eugeni families, and lifelong friends, John and Dorothy Manfredo
