Charles J.'s Story
Charles J. Costello, 91 of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017, at his residence while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Mae (Drennen) Costello.
Charles was raised and educated in Philadelphia. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946, and later went to serve in the United States Marine Corp from 1949 until his honorable discharge in 1950. Charles moved to the Niagara Falls area in the 1950's and was employed as a maintenance supervisor for the New York State Power Authority for 25 years until his retirement in 1986. Charles was a longtime active parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church where served as a member of their choir and Men's Prayer Group. He was also a member of Niagara #1 Volunteer Fire Company and a local Barbershop Quartet. In his leisure time, Charles enjoyed reading, gardening and wood carving.
Mr. Costello is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kathryn 'Kay' L. (Caulson) Costello; and two children, Timothy Costello and Teresa Costello. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Hellen (Allen) Costelllo; and one brother, Thomas (late Hazel) Costello.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin on Wednesday, September 13th at 11:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at Holy Family Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th Street and Independence Ave., Niagara Falls. Entombment with Military Honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Holy Family Parish, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1413 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls, NY 14301.
