Charlene (Davis)'s Story
Charlene (Davis) Calvello, a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 22, 2017 in Schoellkopf Health Care Center. She was 73. She was born in this city on December 23, 1943, the daughter of Abner and Josephine (Page) Davis.
She attended local schools and was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School, Class of 1962, where she was a member of the Beta Alpha Sigma sorority. Charlene also attended the Kelley Business Institute to further her education in accounting.
A selfless woman, Mrs. Calvello was an avid supporter of local fundraisers and charities, always ready to find the next basket auction. Her other hobbies included reading voraciously, listening to Johnny Mathis, attending musicals and watching Yankees games. Charlene was sure to be a spectator at her grandchildren's sporting events. Above all she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Recognized by many as a constant source of inspiration and encouragement and a sound example of resilience and determination.
Charlene enjoyed many friendships throughout her work history in Niagara Falls. She started her career as an assistant manager at Lerner's on Main St. in Niagara Falls. She continued her journey working in purchasing for Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Charlene later moved onto a 12 year career as an account clerk for the City of Niagara Falls, Office of the City Controller, retiring from that position in 2003.
She is survived by her beloved sons, Frank J. (Charmaine) Calvello, Jr. of Niagara Falls; Charles Calvello of Buffalo; her dearest sister, Joan DeLuca of Niagara Falls; loving grandchildren, Dalton and Austin Wentz, Angela Gabriele, Zachary and Michaela Calvello; several nieces, nephews; and her granddogs, Roman, Kelly and Rocky.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 44 years, Frank J. Calvello on February 5, 2015.
Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 AM in St. Joseph Church (Holy Family Parish of Jesus, Mary and Joseph), 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls. The interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
