C. Richard's Story
Charles Richard Meckes 'Dick', 83, passed away on Friday, October 13, in Riverside, CA. Dick was born on September 18, 1934 in Bellefonte, PA to Sam and Ethel Meckes.
He graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1952, Lock Haven State Teachers' College in 1957 (BA- Education), and Niagara University in 1964 (MA- Education). He was married to Mildred Pike for 62 years. Dick taught high school in Niagara Falls and LaSalle, NY for 30 years. He was a wrestling and football coach as well as serving as a member of the school board at Lewiston-Porter School District.
After retiring, Dick continued his education by earning a PhD in Education from Berne University. For many years he also owned and operated Falls Tent & Awning in the Buffalo area. After retiring, Dick split his time living in Davenport, FL and Riverside, CA.
Dick is survived by his wife, Millie; his three sons, Richard of Temecula, CA, Kurt of Harrisburg, PA and Brett of Riverside, CA.; and his daughter, Terri of Tulsa, OK. He has eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
