Amor's Story

Amor Flora Markel, of Ransomville, New York passed away peacefully, August 17, 2017 in Our Lady of Peace. She was 83. She was born in Niagara Falls, New York on January 19, 1934, the daughter of the late Damian and Mary (Martinez) Rey.
After graduating from high school, Amor worked for M&T Bank in Niagara Falls. On January 5, 1952, she married her loving husband, James. She took great pride in caring for her home and family. Her pleasure in life was spending quality time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially around her pool, which she maintained for the grandchildren.
In her leisure time, she loved baking holiday cookies and sharing them with her family and friends. She also loved a good mystery novel and crocheting.
She is survived by children, Lynn (James) Martino of Ransomville; Deborah (Thomas) Weber of the Town of Niagara and Christopher (Fiancée, Aynsley) Markel of Niagara Falls; a sister, Gloria (Frank) Chiasera of the Town of Niagara; sister in law, Joan (Ralph) Colangelo of Niagara Falls; ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James A. Markel in 1983; children, James and Michael Markel and siblings, David Rey and Virginia Rey.
Private Funeral services were held Saturday in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., Niagara Falls. Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to Niagara Hospice, Inc.
