Joseph J. DiCamillo

Joseph J. DiCamillo Long-time Lewiston and Niagara Falls resident, Joseph (Joe) DiCamillo, died peacefully on February 22, 2017 at his residence at a senior living center in Miami, Florida. At the time of his death, Joe was just two weeks shy of his 100th birthday.
Joe was one of 11 children born to Thomas and Addolorata DiCamillo of Niagara Falls, New York, whose family has continuously operated the DiCamillo Bakery in the area since 1920. Joe's personal charm, warmth, good-natured spirit and devotion to family characterized and stayed with him throughout his long life. Those qualities served him well as he was to confront more than his share of major life challenges.
Shortly after he and his wife, the former Olga Parenti of Niagara Falls, successfully raised their two sons and had sent them off to college, Olga tragically died of cancer in the prime of her life. Yet, Joe would rebound from this tragedy and later marry the former Patricia McCormick of Lewiston. After five short years, Pat too would succumb to cancer. Joe's unflappable spirit, however, would open for him yet another chapter in a fabled life, when he met, and later married, the former Barbara (Ferguson) Federlein, also of Lewiston, with whom he shared the remaining 30 years of his life.
Joe graduated from Niagara Falls High School, and in the ensuing years traveled to New York City, where he performed as a singer during the rise of the big band era. Upon his return to Niagara, he rejoined his three brothers, Frank, Thomas, and Nicholas DiCamillo, and became co-owner of the bakery that bears their name. In his later years, Joe also found success as a life insurance salesman and stockbroker in Niagara Falls.
Joe was active in numerous civic organizations and clubs throughout his life, including Niagara Frontier Country Club, Niagara Falls Country Club, Niagara Club, Lewiston Kiwanis, and Century Club. Joe was also a life-long golfer, an avocation he successfully instilled in his two sons. He also bowled, played bocci, and loved dancing and entertaining.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his two sons, Gary (Susan) DiCamillo of Charleston, South Carolina, and Mark (Leslie) DiCamillo of Mill Valley, California; and two sisters, Angelica DiCamillo and Teresa (DiCamillo) Hargrave, both of Niagara Falls. He had four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will be present to receive friends on Friday, March 17, 2017 from 5-8 PM at the SPALLINO-AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, 1300 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 12:00 Noon at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Church 1413 Pine Ave. Family and friends invited. Private burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
